The Cash and Savings Help (CASH) program is a voluntary program offered periodically by the Arkansas Teacher Retirement System (ATRS). The program allows eligible members the option to cancel their membership and forfeit their retirement benefit rights. This is in exchange for a one-time lump sum payment from ATRS. Eligibility is extended to vested members who have been inactive in ATRS for at least one fiscal year.
Eligible members can elect to receive a lump-sum payment, roll over funds to a qualified plan, or a combination of the two. Any amount that is not rolled over may be subject to federal and state income tax and tax penalties. We encourage you to consult with a financial or tax advisor for guidance on whether to accept this offer. ATRS cannot offer tax, legal, or accounting advice.
Participation in the CASH program:
- Forfeits all membership rights
- Cancels all service credit, both noncontributory and contributory
- Waives your right to any future retirement benefits
- Is for vested, inactive members who are eligible for deferred retirement
- Is completely voluntary
- Is a limited time offer through June 30, 2026
