Breaking Down Your 2025-2026 Arkansas Teacher Retirement System Annual Statement
If you have questions concerning your ATRS Annual Statement, please contact our office via phone at (501) 682-1517 or via email at info@artrs.gov.
Member Details: Review your member information to make sure it is correct. ATRS sends essential materials to active and retired members via mail and email, so it is important to keep this information current.
Account Summary: This portion details your ATRS service, established reciprocal service, and purchased service, resulting in your total service credit. These combined years help you reach retirement milestones faster. Life-to-date member contributions reflect the amount you have personally contributed to the system. The 15% employer contributions are not reflected in the statement since they are not refundable to you. It is important to note that reciprocal service credit and purchased service credit do not count toward the Lump-Sum Death Benefit or Retirement Benefit Stipend.

Service Record for Fiscal Year 2026: This area reflects your most recent information for the fiscal year ending 06/30/2026. If this employment information does not look correct, contact ATRS as soon as possible.

Beneficiaries: Account Residue: This section identifies the person(s), entity, or trust that may be eligible to receive the balance of your accumulated contributions. The residue is paid out if funds remain credited to your retirement account upon your passing, whether as an active or retired member. You can update your beneficiary designation(s) through your ATRS Member Portal account.

Beneficiaries: Lump-Sum Death Benefit: This section identifies the person(s), entity, or trust that may receive a nontaxable lump-sum death benefit, if eligible, upon your passing. The amount ranges from $6,667 and $10,000 and is calculated based on your years of noncontributory and contributory service credit. You can update your beneficiary designation(s) through your ATRS Member Portal account.

Benefit Summary and Member Milestones: This feature displays the career milestones you have reached. If you are a vested active member, your status may qualify you for additional system benefits such as Disability Retirement or Survivor benefits.

ATRS Credited Service: The second page of your statement shows up to 30 years of actual ATRS service credit. Established reciprocal and purchased service credit will not appear on this portion; rather, these years are reflected in the Account Summary section.
ATRS uses your 5 highest salaries* from any point in your career to calculate your final average salary (FAS). Salaries used in this calculation are strictly capped at the greater of 110% of your previous highest salary or a $5,000 limitation.
*If you qualify for a benchmark 3-year FAS, ATRS will compare it with your 5-year FAS and will use the higher of the two.
Members Within 2 Years of Retirement:
If you are within 2 years of retirement (due to approaching age 60 or 28 years of service credit), ATRS recommends that you make an appointment to meet with a retirement counselor in person or via Zoom. This session gives you the opportunity to receive benefit information specific to your situation and ask questions about your future retirement.
